Exhibit celebrates Madeline

There are many surprises in the intensely lovely exhibit "Madeline at 75: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans" on view through Feb. 22 at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst. Here's the first: Madeline, the beloved star of the classic children's books, may have lived in Paris but she was born in New York.
